The Field of Natural Resources
Natural resources
are arguably the most important resources to change humanities place in the
world. As such, it is one of the most important to manage carefully with an eye
towards the future and how decisions made will affect progress. With this in
mind, it becomes even more important for those in the field of natural
resources to have an education that is broad enough to cover the many different
facets of natural resources. Yet even with a great education it is important
for people in the field to listen to the advice and input of others; since no
one person’s way can be considered the right way for everyone.
Natural resources drive the world.
Whether it’s the economy or making the modern way life possible, the world’s
natural resources are imperative. Those that are in the field of natural
resources are imperative to utilizing the world’s natural resources in a
productive way. Whether its water resource management or even the management of
wildlife, learning to utilize resources in a proper manner is important and all
requires a great deal learning and being open minded to the many different way
that resources can be utilized.
Under the vast umbrella that is the field
of natural resources there are many different jobs. Whether it’s working for a
mine for resource management in people or resources that are mined. Or even
giving advising on how many tree’s should be cut down and where others should
be planted, there are many different jobs that
can be done visibly seen resources, however that doesn’t mean there aren’t
more. Another job that many don’t visibly notice but is no less important is
rangeland management. Though it’s not seen it is very important and can
determine the future of how future lands are used. One resource that many don’t
think of as a resource is that of wildlife. Wildlife management though general
not seen as a big influence in our modern day of age is still an important part
of this world that deserves to be considered an invaluable resource and
treasure. Wildlife has been instrumental in the growth of humanity and although
it isn’t a driving force today, very few can argue the aesthetic beauty of
wildlife and the affects they have on the world around us.
Someone in the field of natural resources will
see the value of the world as a whole as well as the value in something like
deserted land that appears useless to others. Whether its water, soil, acres, trees,
or even recreational areas the right person will see that there is always a
great deal of potential, and that things can be used efficiently. Water is one
such resource that many people value highly but might not fully see how
essential it is how to use it efficiently. Even waste water has a process that
puts it back in the local water cycle, and sometimes even utilizes it for
irrigation and preserving water.
The use of natural
resources affects our daily lives. And it is up to those in the field to use
their knowledge to make sure that resources are used effectively and
efficiently. The importance and effects of how we utilize these resources is a
highly debated topic that will likely still be debated in the foreseeable
future. Making it all the more imperative that those who manage these resources
to tread carefully with the future in mind.
Dusty,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the informative post. I haven't considered working for a mine in the natural resources field. It makes sense since a mine is extracting a resource and has the potential to impact the resources around the mine.

Hi Dusty,
ReplyDeleteI agree wildlife is often overlooked as a valuable resource, most people are only interested in flagship species but wildlife deserves funding for protection and management too. Our broad knowledge allows us to identify the importance of wildlife species, so that we could prevent things like trophic cascade from happening.
